CRAWFORD BAY, BC, CANADA

Leaving Nelson, BC we were off to catch the ferry that crosses Kootenay Lake. It is billed as the “Longest Free Ferry Ride in the World.”  The ride was about 35 minutes and very smooth.  It was sunny and the temperature was very comfortable.  On this boat all vehicles are on deck and you can sit in your vehicle or go to one of the two areas where you can watch the scenery pass by.

Today we are staying in Crawford Bay, B.C., which is a hamlet along the east shore of Kootenay Lake which is HUGE!  They are known here for their artisans.  We visited weavers, glassblowers, a blacksmith, broommakers, potters, copper enamellists, jewelers, and other artists. We even made a few purchases.  The broommaker has supplied brooms for movies, plays, operas, and TV shows.  They produced 300 brooms for the Canadian publishers of the Harry Potter books.  The stone mother bear with cubs was only $40,000, base included, but shipping was extra.

Our last stop before returning to our campground was Boswell where we saw  glass houses made of bottles.
